European Football's Governing Body Launches Disciplinary Investigation Against Chelsea's Pedro Neto Following Altercation Involving PSG Youth Assistant.

UEFA has opened a disciplinary case against Chelsea's the Portuguese international following an incident where he knocked over a sideline assistant in the Champions League loss against Paris St‑Germain.

The Portugal international, Neto, pushed the boy in stoppage time of Wednesday's knockout stage fixture at Parc des Princes – where Chelsea lost 5-2 – an action that led to the boy falling from his seat.

The incident triggered a confrontation between both sets of players.

Uefa said the case has been opened against Neto on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" under UEFA's code.

"Disciplinary officials will take a decision regarding this matter at a later date," UEFA added in its statement.

The Chelsea player said sorry after the match and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" as he tried to regain possession of the ball.

"That is not who I am. Emotions were running high and I offer my apologies. My shirt was given to him. I deeply regret it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto explained to broadcasters.

"My French is not very good, so teammate Vitinha came over and said to him I was not like this.

"At the end he [the ball boy] laughed and I presented him with my jersey and said sorry repeatedly. He understood it was a mistake and was content with how it was resolved."

Chelsea host Paris St-Germain in the upcoming second leg for the return fixture, after Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in the Premier League.
