Seaside town killer's sibling was afraid he would kill, hearing learns

The sibling of the Seaside town killer testified his mother and father "were unable to handle" of their offspring and he worried his brother would murder a member of their household, a hearing has been told.

Axel Rudakubana, a teenager, murdered three kids at a pop music-inspired dance class on July 29, 2024.

The official investigation, conducted at a civic building, learned the family member the older brother told a acquaintance there was a risk of his sibling "taking action potentially fatal."

The inquiry was informed Dion wrote to his contact over the online platform: "The fights are frightening because of the risk of a fatality."

He stated his brother was similar to the sociopathic murderer in the picture No Country For Old Men.

Growing Tensions

The hearing learned Dion was found to have a health issue at the age of 12 which caused him needing mobility assistance and his mother and father offering greater support.

Questioned by the lawyer, counsel to the inquiry, if that affected their bond he said: "There was tension that emerged."

The brother acknowledged his relative appeared to resent this development.

He told the hearing that after the relatives relocated from Cardiff to Southport his brother's moods worsened and he would have "aggressive episodes."

Proceedings heard Dion became "more cautious" of his relative, who would physically assault him frequently.

He testified: "I needed to be careful if I tried to communicate to him because any disagreement could become an altercation."

'Genuine concerns'

The brother testified his relative became significantly more violent after he was expelled from the educational institution in Formby, Merseyside, in that period.

He departed for higher education in 2022 and the siblings spoke less and less "due to unfamiliarity with having me around."

The hearing was informed of a communication Dion messaged a contact on the service in which he said his sibling was angered by him talking during nighttime because of the thin walls in their home.

He additionally informed his contact there was a risk of "him taking action deadly."

He said: "Arguments are terrifying because of the threat of someone dying."

The lawyer asked: "You held real worries that your sibling would murder a person of your family?"

The brother responded: "If things escalated to that point."

The counsel asked how his parents dealt with the perpetrator's aggression.

"It didn't make sense to seek to penalize him," he stated. "Moreover, there was a serious threat in taking that action.

"We mentioned there was a general risk to life in everyday talk, if you attempt to challenge him... it could provoke violence."

When the lawyer inquired if his family had been unable to handle of his brother, the brother concurred.

Inquired concerning his brother resembling a figure from the movie No Country for Old Men, Dion stated: "It was said that persona's meant to be a sociopath and that's why I employed that term there."

The brother said the final contact he had with his brother was in the 2023 summer.

He stated that their mother and father requested the killer to take leave to him as he was going to meet his associates and his relative threw a bottle at him but the door had closed before it hit.
