Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Real Fans'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Spurs fans who booed keeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League home loss of the year.

However the main topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when Vicario gave away the ball far outside his box.

He ventured out to deal with a high pass and took the ball towards the sideline.

But, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those booing episodes really angered the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently booed the situation and booed following, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"[They] cannot be true Spurs fans that act that way. Alright booing after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are with one another moving ahead."

Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the next score was "totally avoidable".

"I do appreciate the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part Vicario is performing. He is a excellent team player, he is a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He stated following the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"That score was a mistake of my own, I accept accountability for that," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and poise to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it is hard to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple score for Wilson to score.

In fact it was the next most distant Premier League score of the campaign – following Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.

Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.

Ten moments passed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the box for ages," Wilson said.

"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the right contact and place it on target. I had a positive feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to continue their home struggles.

This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the close of the year.

Just a single of those wins have occurred since Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to go against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest averages on file in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Former Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the stick," the pundit said. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
