The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
