The network's Premier New Show of This Year Earns a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
