Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
